What Is a Ghibli Park E-Ticket? — The 30-Second Rundown

A Ghibli Park e-ticket is a digitally purchased ticket from an online platform such as Klook or Lawson Ticket. It takes the form of a QR code that you display on your smartphone (or print out). It's just as valid as a traditional paper ticket — but the way you use it at the park is a bit different.

The key thing to understand is that showing your QR code is not the last step. Ghibli Park uses a system where your QR code is exchanged for a physical wristband at the park. That wristband is what gets you into each individual area.

Step-by-Step: From Purchase to Park Entry

Here's the complete process for using your Ghibli Park e-ticket, broken down into five clear steps. Follow these in order and you won't run into any surprises on the day.

Step 1

Purchase Your Ticket

Buy your Ghibli Park ticket on the Klook website or app, or through Lawson Ticket. Tickets go on sale at 2:00 PM Japan time on the 10th of the month, two months before your visit date.

At the time of purchase, you must register the full name of every person in your group — exactly as it appears on their passport. These names will be checked by staff, so any typos matter.

Important Things to Know When Buying

  • Names must match your passport spelling exactly
  • No changes or cancellations after purchase
  • Maximum 6 tickets per transaction
  • Transferring or reselling tickets is a terms-of-service violation and will result in denied entry
Step 2

Receive and Save Your QR Code

After your purchase is confirmed, your e-ticket QR code will be sent to your registered email address. If you booked through Klook, you can also find it anytime in the Klook app under "My Bookings."

To make sure you can present it smoothly on the day, we recommend doing all of the following in advance:

  • Install the Klook app and confirm you can access your QR code
  • Take a screenshot of the QR code and save it to your camera roll (viewable offline)
  • Print a backup copy to carry with you (highly recommended)

Our Experience

We brought both a screenshot and a printed copy. Worrying about battery life all day is stressful — having a printout in your pocket is the easiest solution.

Step 3

On the Day: Head to the Wristband Counter

When you arrive at Ghibli Park (Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park), your first stop should be the wristband pickup counter. It's located near the park entrance and staff will be on hand to direct you.

Have these two things ready before you approach the counter:

  1. Your e-ticket QR code (on your phone or printed)
  2. Your passport or government-issued photo ID (for every person in your group)

Hard Deadline: Wristbands Must Be Collected by 12:00 Noon

This is the single most important rule on this page. Wristband pickup closes at 12:00 noon on your visit day. If you miss this window, you cannot collect your wristband and your ticket is effectively forfeit. Get to the counter in the morning — do not leave this until the last minute.

Step 4

ID Check and Wristband Issue

Staff will scan your QR code and compare the ticket name against your passport or ID. If everything matches, they'll issue your wristband on the spot.

For groups, present all tickets and all IDs together. Staff will verify each person individually and fit each wristband. The wristbands are valid for the day of your visit only. They're secured firmly — you don't need to worry about them coming loose accidentally.

Step 5

Enter Each Area — Just Tap Your Wristband

With your wristband on, you're ready to explore. Tap your wristband at the gate of each area to enter.

The O-Sanpo Day Pass Premium covers all five areas: Ghibli's Grand Warehouse (ジブリの大倉庫), Hill of Youth (青春の丘), Dondoko Forest (どんどこ森), Princess Mononoke's Village (もののけの里), and Valley of Witches (魔女の谷). The Standard pass covers the Grand Warehouse, Princess Mononoke's Village, and Valley of Witches.

The Wristband System — A Closer Look

Ghibli Park's wristband is more than just a wristband. It contains an IC chip that stores your ticket information, including your pass type (Premium or Standard). When you tap it at an area gate, the system automatically checks whether your pass covers that area — and will deny entry if it doesn't.

Why Does the Pickup Deadline Exist?

The official reason for the noon cutoff isn't publicly stated, but the practical logic is crowd management: by completing all wristband distribution in the morning, the park can ensure adequate staffing levels throughout the rest of the day.

Based on our own visit, the counter around 10:00 AM was smooth with almost no wait. The rush tends to hit right at opening (9:00–9:30 AM), so arriving between 9:30 and 10:30 AM tends to be the sweet spot.

If Your Wristband Is Damaged or Falls Off

If your wristband breaks or comes off during your visit, tell a nearby staff member immediately. If you have your QR code or booking reference number, staff may be able to reissue it. That said, this isn't guaranteed — treat your wristband with care throughout the day.

What to Bring for Entry

Ghibli Park has strict identity verification at entry. Simply having a ticket isn't enough — the ticket holder must be present in person, with ID to match.

ItemDetailsNotes
E-ticket (QR code) On your smartphone or printed Make sure the screen is clean and brightness is at maximum
Passport Required for all ticket holders International visitors: passport is essential. Must be valid.
Government photo ID Driver's license, My Number card, etc. (Japan residents) Acceptable alternative if you don't have your passport

Name Mismatch — What Happens?

If the name on your ticket does not match the name on your ID, you will be denied entry. This applies equally to tickets bought second-hand or transferred from someone else. Ghibli Park takes a firm stance on resold tickets, and if fraudulent use is detected, entry refusal and potential legal action are both possible.

If you purchased tickets on behalf of a group, every person whose name was registered must be present and carry their own ID.

Ghibli's Grand Warehouse — Understanding the Timed-Entry System

Among all of Ghibli Park's areas, only Ghibli's Grand Warehouse (ジブリの大倉庫) uses a timed-entry system. This is unique to this area and works differently from the other zones.

How Timed Entry Works

When you purchase your ticket (or during a separate selection process), you choose a one-hour entry window for the Grand Warehouse. For example, if you select the 10:00–11:00 AM slot, you must pass through the Grand Warehouse gate before 11:00 AM.

Once that one-hour window closes, your right to enter the Grand Warehouse expires. Your wristband remains active for other areas, but you will not be able to enter the Grand Warehouse after your window passes.

Three Non-Negotiable Rules for the Grand Warehouse

  1. Enter the Grand Warehouse gate within your designated one-hour window
  2. Once you exit, re-entry is not permitted — leaving means you're done for the day
  3. Seats for Cinema Orion (short film screenings) are limited — get a numbered ticket as early as possible after entering

Which Entry Time Slot Should You Choose?

We recommend an early morning slot (9:00–10:00 AM or 10:00–11:00 AM). Tackling the Grand Warehouse first thing leaves the rest of the day free for the outdoor areas, which have no time restrictions. Choosing a late afternoon slot (e.g. 2:00–3:00 PM) means you're pressed for time once you exit, especially if you're hoping to cover all five areas on a Premium pass.

Re-Entry Rules — Premium vs. Standard

Re-entry rules differ significantly depending on which pass you hold. Know your pass type before you plan your day.

O-Sanpo Day Pass Standard

  • Ghibli's Grand Warehouse: no re-entry
  • Princess Mononoke's Village: check current policy
  • Valley of Witches (outdoor): check current policy

Standard pass re-entry policies may change. Verify the latest details on the official site before your visit.

Leaving and Re-entering the Park Grounds

The official policy on exiting the park grounds and re-entering is not explicitly stated. In practice, re-entry to outdoor areas tends to be permitted while your wristband is active. However, re-entry to the Grand Warehouse is not allowed regardless of pass type — this rule is absolute.

Troubleshooting — What to Do If Things Go Wrong

Here are the most common problems visitors run into, and how to handle them.

Your Phone Battery Dies

This is one of the most common issues. The solution is all in the preparation:

  • Save a screenshot of your QR code offline before you leave for the park
  • Print your QR code and carry it with you (most reliable option)
  • Bring a portable charger
  • On Klook, your booking confirmation email includes your reservation number — showing this to staff may allow them to assist you manually

Your QR Code Won't Scan

Most scanning failures come down to screen issues. Try these steps:

  1. Set your screen brightness to maximum
  2. Adjust the angle — screen protectors can cause glare that interferes with scanning
  3. Reload the QR code page (codes can expire and refreshing may generate a new valid one)
  4. Open the QR code directly from the Klook app rather than a screenshot (sometimes more reliable)
  5. If all else fails, flag down a staff member and show your booking confirmation and reservation number — they can verify manually

You Notice a Name Typo

If you realize a name was entered incorrectly at the time of purchase, contact the platform's customer support as soon as possible. Klook's customer service team may be able to help, though corrections aren't always possible. This is exactly why double-checking names before completing your purchase is so important.

Minor formatting differences (e.g., "Tanaka Taro" vs. "TANAKA TARO") are generally tolerated. A completely different name will not be.

You Miss Your Grand Warehouse Entry Window

If you arrive after your designated time window has closed, there is generally no official remedy. Your wristband remains valid for other areas, but your Grand Warehouse access has expired.

If you're running late, it's worth speaking to gate staff — there are occasional reports of flexibility in exceptional circumstances, but this is not guaranteed.

You Arrive After Noon and Miss Wristband Pickup

If you reach the wristband counter after 12:00 noon, pickup will no longer be possible and your ticket is effectively void. This situation is not covered by the official cancellation/refund policy, so be extremely careful about your arrival time.

In cases of genuine circumstances beyond your control (e.g. major transport delays), it's worth explaining your situation to staff or contacting the support center — though a resolution cannot be guaranteed.

Practical Tips From Our Visit

Based on our own experience at Ghibli Park, here are the most useful tips for getting the most out of your e-ticket.

Tip 1: Download and Pre-load the Klook App Before You Go

In case of spotty connectivity at the park, open your booking page in the Klook app before you arrive so it's cached and viewable offline. Don't wait until you're standing at the counter to figure out where your QR code is.

Tip 2: Each Person Needs Their Own QR Code

On Klook, buying multiple tickets generates a separate QR code for each person. At the wristband counter, you'll need to present each code individually — one QR code doesn't cover a whole family. Have all the codes ready before you approach the counter.

Tip 3: Avoid the Wristband Counter Right at Opening

The wristband counter is at its busiest right when the park opens (9:00–9:15 AM). On weekends, this can mean long queues. The 9:30–10:00 AM window tends to be much smoother — we cleared the counter at that time and walked straight into the Grand Warehouse for our entry slot.

Tip 4: Get Your Cinema Orion Ticket the Moment You Enter the Grand Warehouse

Cinema Orion inside the Grand Warehouse shows short Ghibli films with numbered tickets given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Before you look at any of the exhibits, go straight to the Cinema Orion counter. Popular screening times fill up fast.

Tip 5: Charge Your Phone Fully and Save That Screenshot

Ghibli Park is full of photo opportunities, and battery drain is real. A portable charger is essential. And no matter what: save that QR code screenshot before you leave the hotel. It could save your whole trip.

Ghibli Park tickets come in two formats: e-tickets (digital/QR code) and traditional paper tickets. The in-park process is slightly different for each.

We've put together a detailed comparison to help you decide which suits you better:

→ E-Ticket vs. Paper Ticket — Full Comparison

The short version: e-tickets are ideal for international visitors and anyone who prefers buying online. Paper tickets may feel more reassuring if you're less comfortable with smartphone-based ticketing. Either way, both formats are exchanged for the same wristband at the park, so your experience after that point is identical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I pick up my Ghibli Park e-ticket?

The e-ticket is a QR code — you receive it digitally by email or through the Klook app. At the park, you exchange this QR code for a physical wristband at the wristband pickup counter inside Ghibli Park (Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park). Wristbands must be collected by 12:00 noon on your visit day.

Can I print my QR code instead of using my phone?

Yes, a printed QR code works fine. As long as the printout is clear enough for the scanner to read, it's fully accepted. We actually recommend printing a backup copy — it removes all stress around battery life and connectivity.

What happens if I miss the noon wristband pickup deadline?

If you arrive at the wristband counter after 12:00 noon, you will not be able to collect your wristband. At that point, your ticket is essentially void. The official cancellation policy does not cover this situation, so there is no refund. Make absolutely sure you're there before noon — ideally well before.

Can I re-enter Ghibli's Grand Warehouse?

No. Re-entry to Ghibli's Grand Warehouse is not permitted. Once you exit, you cannot return on the same day. O-Sanpo Day Pass Premium holders can re-enter the outdoor areas (Hill of Youth, Dondoko Forest, Princess Mononoke's Village, and Valley of Witches), but not the Grand Warehouse.

What do I do if my QR code won't scan?

First, set your screen brightness to maximum and try adjusting the angle. If it still won't scan, ask a nearby staff member for help and show them your booking confirmation email and reservation number. Staff can verify your booking manually. A printed QR code can also be used as a backup.

Can I give my ticket to someone else?

No. Ticket transfers and resales are prohibited under the terms of service. Since staff check your ID against the name on the ticket at the wristband counter, anyone presenting a ticket registered to a different person will be denied entry. Fraudulent use may also result in legal action.

Do children under 3 need an e-ticket?

No. Children aged 3 and under enter free of charge and do not need a ticket. Children aged 4–12 require a child-priced ticket.
